Aboriginal flags held by people who gathered at Parliament House in Canberra to hear the apology
Today is a wonderful day. This morning the Australian government formally apologised to indigenous people and the Stolen Generations, as the first act on the first sitting day of Parliament for Kevin Rudd’s newly elected government. Kevin gave an amazing, emotional speech that will surely be remembered as one of Australia’s finest political speeches ever. On the lawns of Parliament House there were large screens broadcasting the apology and the crowd thundered with applause when Rudd finished speaking.
