After my last post, which had black and white photographs of Paris, I’ve decided to throw some bright colours around. These three photos were all taken in the St-Germain des Prés quartier of Paris, in the 6th arrondissement, which – like so much of Paris – is full of excellent little cafés, little alleys, and walls that made me whip out the camera, line it up while dodging traffic, and squeeze the shutter release.

I have a particular thing about taking photos of walls. I love it when I come across a wall that has paint peeling, old poster marks, drawings. Blocks of colour. A perfectly placed window. I like the scraps that are left behind – staples or sticky tape – and the mixture of concrete and paint and paper and colour, all within the rectangular confines of the space defined by the wall. I think it’s simply excellent that these gems just happen naturally in a city like Paris, and while I was there I roved the streets happily, camera in hand.
