Wasenhorn (3246 m) is a mountain that sits right on the border between Switzerland and Italy, in the eastern part of Valais. It’s a nice hike in to an easy and pleasant scramble up a rock ridge to the summit. Across from Wasenhorn is Monte Leone, which is taller (3553 m) and has impressive glacial skirts. Tanya and I climbed Wasenhorn on Saturday, as a very nice day trip from Simplon Pass, complete with a stop for a coffee in the hut. Here are some photos from the hike.

Summit views! That’s Brig in the valley.
Rocks and minerals in Monte Leone hut.
In the morning this bridge was dry; in the afternoon the water had risen due to glacial melt!
