The Netherlands

For the first half of this week I was in The Netherlands for a conference. I enjoyed being there. It was my first trip there, and I was impressed by the flatness of its landscape, the tallness of its people, and by the language. Dutch is supposed to be between German and English, and this lends it a property that I find comical. For example, I think words like "winkel" and "sloopwerken" are funny and I can't really explain why. When I listen to Dutch and understand nothing, there seem to be lots of words that sounds like "spork". Here are some photos from the trip, which included a side-trip to an outdoor museum of Dutch buildings.
