Cologne cathedral
At the end of November Tanya and I went to Cologne to visit our friends Georgina and Pete. I was looking forward to the Deutschebahn train that we took to get there, and it was indeed very shiny and luxurious and, once going, very fast. We left Basel in Switzerland right on time, as per the Swiss train system, but added a stout 100 minutes of delay the moment we crossed the border into Germany.
We had a really great weekend in Cologne, checking out the various Christmas markets in the cold and drinking Kölsch. Cologne has a very tall cathedral, which we climbed to the top of to check out the view.
After the weekend we headed back to Switzerland on the sleeper train, which was a great adventure in itself. The rattling and swaying of the train and the sound of air rushing past reminded me of camping in a tent in a storm. We arrived in Basel in the morning, a mere 65 minutes late.
