Doctorate received!

After four years of study at EPFL I officially received my PhD on Friday 25th November at my PhD public defence. While the private defence is where a panel of experts decides whether you have earned the PhD, the public defence offers a chance to explain to friends and family what the project was about and why it was important — and concludes with the conferral of the degree. I gave a presentation for about 40 minutes, then my supervisor Alexis Berne presented me with my doctorate.

I was incredibly lucky to have my mum Hilary come all the way from Australia to be there for this special occasion! After the defence there was an apero to celebrate, with nibbles and beer (including Coopers Pale as a nod to home). It was a fantastic evening. A few days later I got my hands on the hard copy of my thesis, which is beautifully printed and bound. I am happy and proud to have finished.
